Could Pet Reincarnation Be Possible

By Dawn Williams

Some religions in the world place animals in a place of high esteem. Hindu people have a reverence for cows and do not eat beef. They allow cows to roam through towns or anywhere else they please. Some people do not entertain the idea of an animal having a soul as a human does. But, some believe pet reincarnation is a possibility.

Some African tribes have a general belief in animals having more than one life. Death is not considered the end but the beginning of a new existence. It is thought that the dead live in an invisible place close to the living on earth.

The Egyptians built pyramids and filled them with food, water and statues representing all the things they would need in the afterlife. Buddhists have a slightly different concept of how people return to earth. The process is called rebirth.

Being born for the first time as an insect or some form of lower animal is what the Zulu people believe is the beginning. Then after each death, the soul moves into a higher species until finally, it can be reborn as a baby. Following that, a new life will begin after each death.

Karmic rebirth is a belief adhered to by Hindus and Buddhists. Each action of the person is noted and returned in kind. Therefore, if a person commits good acts, he will be reborn as something good. If he commits crimes and other bad things, he will return as something undesirable.

A pet dog or cat inspires love in its owner. People are devoted to pets almost as much a children. There are pet loss support groups for owners who lose a dog or cat. Some of the members tell about a pet they believe to be reborn after a previous pet died.

The Inuit people have the belief that everyone and every animal has a soul. In earlier times the hunters would kill an animal for food and then perform a ritual to send the soul into the next incarnation. They do not think an animal is ever reborn as a person, but, rather always is born another animal.

To a Native American, animals have spirits that are divine life sources. They are a part of the great Creator. The animal spirit moves in a circle of life, being reborn again and again. The tribes believe that a prayer must be offered for the soul of an animal when it is killed.

A man or woman and a pet, especially a dog, share a close relationship. There is no more devoted and loving animal than a dog. When someone loses the dog, it is as sorrowful as if it were a friend. It may be comforting to think of the dog as retuning to live another life in the body of another dog. Human or animal, many people in the world are firm believers in subsequent lives.

It is as likely that pet reincarnation is a reality as it is that human reincarnation is real. People in India take the fact of rebirth as commonplace. If a belief such as this provides comfort to someone who loses a beloved pet, there is no harm in it. Besides, no one can prove it is not real.
