Silver Lab Puppies For Sale Are In Demand

By Marsha Klein

The Silver Lab puppies for sale are winning hearts, just like Labs in the typical shades. After all, there is a reason why the breed has top the annual American Kennel Club list once again-22 years in a row. For people looking for this rarer shade, breeding programs are dedicated to replicating it to meet customer demands.

A better way to describe this shade is as a chocolate with silvery tinting. The AKC registers this uncommon hue in the chocolate category. In fact, AKC registers all such dilutes under their respective standard colors. There are people who contend a Weimaraner ancestor is producing this tint. There are other breeds mixed in Labrador ancestry. But, evidence suggests it was produced by chocolate parents. This is the reason the pure breed registry is accepting it. Another related canine species created in the United States has a similar shade produced by brown colored dogs.

This related retrieving species is the state dog of Maryland. A silvery brown tone can be found in the American Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Chesapeakes were formulated from a mix of local retriever breeds and two Newfoundlands. They were bred at the same time the English were breeding Labradors from Newfoundland stock. The local stock included the English Otter Hound, Curly and Flat Coated Retrievers. The Chesapeake has also been mixed in the Lab bloodline. Two well-known Chesapeake forbears have been a male named Jolly, and a female named Corydalys.

Sharp observers have noticed the current Labrador lineage shows increasing diversity. They point to apparent variations in different breeding lines. There are people who do not agree this hue is a variant of a standard color. But, this variance should have been anticipated. Earlier interbreeding with Chessies may also have played some role in the frequent recurrence of this gene.

The Newfoundland based ancestry of Chessies and Labs goes back to the St. Johns breed of water dogs. This pet was bred for a useful function. It became a native of the Canadian island from the early 1500s. Casual breeding by European settlers designed this species. The ancestral breeding stock of this Canadian dog is not known for certain. No records remain from that time. But experts think some mixing of Europeans working dogs from Ireland, England and Portugal was used.

As records reveal, a Labrador entered the record books for the first time in 1939 as an individual species in England. Its heritage is traced to breeding by English lords, the Earls of Malmesbury and Dukes of Buccleuch. During the 19th century, these English breeders performed an integral job in creating and propagating this species. Ned and Avon belonging to the Duke of Buccleuch are identified as forbears of all Labs today. From England Labs were imported into the United States.

The first recognized color was the black shade. Then after initially being rejected, the yellow color was officially recognized. Following the same pattern, the chocolate was ultimately acknowledged. Silvers are produced by the mixing of 2 recessive genes. By crossing Silvers, this shading is replicated in subsequent litters.

The growing popularity of this rare dilute has encouraged breeders to market Silver Lab puppies for sale. Breeders are not worried about the color controversy. They have confidence that at some point this tint will be acknowledged exactly the same way yellow and chocolate were finally accepted. The controversy over the origin of this hue has also not affected its appeal. Owners of these puppies already know, they share the renowned Labrador temperament with dogs who do reflect the exact breed standards colors.
